Order, church and nation are the permanent goods, and a strong executive should hold them against liberalism, separatism and revolution — restoring an older settlement rather than building a new one.

Wants a personal executive above party, vertical state-run syndicates in place of unions, Catholic doctrine embedded in law and schooling, and regional languages and identities suppressed. Wants no mass mobilising party of the fascist type.

Historical success case

The Stabilisation Plan of 1959 and the growth decade that followed, when technocrats drawn from Opus Dei abandoned autarky for trade and foreign investment and Spanish output grew rapidly.

Historical failure mode

Four decades of political executions, censorship and stolen children, ending in a transition whose success depended on dismantling the regime's institutions entirely — and on an amnesty that Spain is still arguing about.

Fascism, with which it allied and from which it differs on revolutionary content and mass mobilisation; theocratic integralism, which wants clerical authority as a first principle rather than as a pillar of order.

Common mix-up

Reactionary authoritarianism and fascism are not interchangeable. Franco suppressed the Falange's radicals as readily as the left, stayed out of the war, and had no project to remake the Spanish person — a distinction the Pace score is there to record.
